Reclaim the Game.
NSW Government.
Sports betting has become deeply woven into Australian sport, and it’s changing how fans experience the game. Through Reclaim the Game, the NSW Government partners with clubs like the Western Sydney Wanderers who say no to sports betting sponsorships and want to promote a healthier sporting culture.
To bring that message to life, we wanted to do something a little different, taking the Wanderers players out of their usual football setting and putting them in the role of straight-faced presenters delivering tongue-in-cheek lessons on fan behaviour. The result is Fan Mode or Bet Mode.
Shot in a retro broadcast style with bold typography, a nostalgic film look and an upbeat synth-driven soundtrack, the campaign was designed to stand out from typical sports content. Originally focused on in-stadium delivery, we shifted the approach to build a stronger online presence, creating additional content tailored for social to extend reach and relevance. Produced on a small budget and one-day shoot, I directed the films alongside our DOP, working to a tight plan and quick setups to capture multiple scenarios while keeping the craft high.
The 30-second film plays at Wanderers games on stadium screens and across social, with three supporting videos running on TikTok, Meta, and YouTube.
